"Bossier Schools... Making today's dreams tomorrow's reality" - that's the Bossier Parish School System motto, and it holds true from preschool through college. Bossier City and the surrounding area provide educational opportunities for life long learning close to home, including one of the nation's top medical schools. Our school systems are adapting to the growing need for science and technology learning.
The Bossier-Shreveport area covers two public school districts (Bossier and Caddo) and over 20 private schools. According to the Louisiana Department of Education, the Bossier-Shreveport area has an elementary and secondary enrollment of almost 67,000 students.
Bossier students score far above the average each year in state and national tests, such as the Iowa Tests of Educational Development and Iowa Tests of Basic Development. These achievements reflect local administrators' and teachers' beliefs that each child must be provided the very best in order to achieve their very best. A district-wide technology plan, along with individual school technology plans, provides the most up-to-date, cost-effective tools and training to assist teachers and students in reaching their goals.
Local universities and colleges in the community offer a wide variety of programs for undergraduate and graduate study. You won't have to travel far to enroll at Baptists Christian College, Centenary College, LSU-Shreveport, and Southern University-Shreveport. Within Bossier Parish, we have Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana Tech at Barksdale and Southern University Incubator. In addition, various adult learning and continuing education courses are available, as well as vocational and technical degrees from the Shreveport-Bossier Regional Technical Institute and Bossier Parish Community College.
The most highly trained medical professionals in the country graduate from Louisiana State University Medical School and Northwestern State University School of Nursing each year. Because of a love for the area and a booming medical industry, many graduates remain and practice here, providing a wealth of superior medical care to Bossier City residents.
